FAMILY PHYSICIAN OPPORTUNITY — CANADA

Medicare Clinic, Kelowna

Family medicine in one of British Columbia's fastest-growing cities, with an established panel, a hands-on mentoring team, and real flexibility over how you build your week.

SCROLL ↓

Kelowna is BC's fastest-growing city, and it's easy to see why.

Kelowna is the seventh-largest city in British Columbia, with around 166,000 people in the city itself and 255,000 across the metro area. It's roughly 457 km from Vancouver, about six to seven hours by car.

Life here runs around Okanagan Lake, with swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and a proper beach culture through the summer. The Kettle Valley Railway Trail is a 77 km heritage cycling and walking route with restored wooden trestle bridges, and the Okanagan Valley has more than 40 award-winning wineries within easy reach. Silverstar Mountain Resort offers alpine and Nordic skiing nearby, and downtown Kelowna has a proper mix of galleries, independent cafés and local markets.

For families, School District 23 performs above the provincial average. Anne McClymont Elementary and Okanagan Mission Secondary are the top-rated public options locally, and independent schools such as Aberdeen Hall, Immaculata and Kelowna Christian School are also well regarded.

Here's what actually sets this role apart.

Four things worth knowing before your first conversation.

Paid for more than patient-facing time

Under the LFP model, you're compensated for charting, results review, quality improvement and admin, not just the minutes in front of a patient.

An established panel from day one

You're not building a list from zero. There's an established patient panel ready to go, alongside continuing demand from a fast-growing city.

Genuine mentorship on site

Three GPs, an on-site nurse and a Friday midwife, plus four years of local referral and pathway knowledge from the practice's medical director.

Help with the practical move

Temporary on-site housing, support arranging a car, and introductions to local estate agents while you find your feet.

CAD $130/hour minimum

Indicative, under the Longitudinal Family Practice fee-for-service model. Not a guaranteed total income figure.

  • $130 CAD per hour minimum, plus a minimum $25 per patient seen within that hour
  • Guaranteed up to 60 hours per week (government cap on claimable hours)
  • Quarterly bonus per attached patient on your panel
  • Additional fees for minor procedures, e.g. $110 per biopsy
  • Fee split approximately 75% GP / 25% clinic overhead (indicative, may vary 22–25%)

Contract length

3 years, with full-time (Monday to Thursday) or part-time (2 to 4 days a week) options and flexible scheduling around individual goals.

Settling in

Temporary on-site housing (four single rooms) while you find permanent accommodation, support arranging a car, and introductions to local real estate agents.

Flexible start dates

Staggered or simultaneous starts are both welcomed. There's enough panel availability to bring in more than one new physician without competition between you.

Cover each other, not compete with each other.

Physicians here cover for one another during absences and provide mutual clinical support. It's a genuinely collaborative setup rather than competitive tension over panels.

There's no pressure on patient volume or appointment length. Average demand runs around 20 patients a day at 15-minute intervals, though this flexes depending on individual preference, whether that's prioritising quality over volume or the reverse.

Physicians with an interest in emergency medicine or women's health are especially well suited here, given the on-site midwife and emergency overflow work from the adjacent emergency room. Those trained in the UK integrate well into the team.
